I wrote a post recently about how I begin many of my introductory client conversations by asking the individual an illuminating leadership question, “What are you passionate about?” I have realized over time that it is much easier for many leaders to respond to this question than to begin by asking them what their leadership vision is.
This is because many leaders have a hard time describing their true vision.
I don’t mean regurgitating a statement framed on the wall, but truly coloring in the details of their vision and what it will look, feel, smell, sound and taste like when their vision becomes reality.
On the other hand, people light up when they talk about their passions! In many cases, it’s one’s passion that inspires, creates and nurtures their vision. Thus, understanding someone’s passion helps them start the process of defining their vision.
One Woman Whose Passion Inspired Vision:
Because this can be so difficult for some leaders, I simply adore stories of people who have followed their passion and, in the process, been inspired with a new vision of their personal path.
Sarah Mae is one of these people.
Sarah is someone who I would sometimes see in #blogchat (the largest live chat on Twitter, focused on bettering your blog) but who I only knew peripherally until recently when she suggested to Mack Collier, (the chat’s host), that the topic one week be dedicated to using your blog posts to write and sell an eBook.
Now, as a consultant with the Content Marketing Institute I was quite familiar with the use of eBooks by individuals and companies to position themselves in their markets as thought-leaders. But other than the major report publishing companies, was not familiar with anyone making a concerted effort to profit from them.
I was literally blown away when I learned Sarah had earned more than $55,000 in revenues in her first three months selling her eBook, “31 Days to Clean.”
Yes, you read that right.
Sarah Mae opened my eyes to a whole new world for writers, and she did so by sharing her passion and letting us know how her passion had led to an entirely new vision for her life!
Sarah’s Passion Comes to Life
In that aforementioned #blogchat Sarah shared with us, as leaders do, the story of how she turned her passion into a new vision. She gave all her secrets away knowing that, in this beautiful world, there is enough success to go around for everyone and the only thing stopping us is ourselves.
You see, Sarah is driven by her desire to inspire women to hold fast to biblical ideas. She is the founder and co-host of a Christian women’s blogging conference and has developed four national blogs that help her pursue this vision.
One morning she woke to find herself incredibly inspired by how women were being moved and touched by something specific she’d posted the night before. She decided to expand on it and share it with the world, bringing greater value and joy to many more readers.
In doing so, she discovered a new vision for her career, one as a professional ePublisher and writer. She is now making a full-time living focusing on ePublishing and on creating communities around her eBooks.
Access to Sarah’s Secrets
Sarah received so many requests to share her process and insights that she wrote an exceptional eBook that I not only highly recommend, but am using as a blueprint to write my own eBooks! (Details coming soon, I promise!)
Sarah has truly inspired me, something that we as leaders aspire to do each and every day!
You may purchase a copy of Sarah’s new eBook, “How to Market and Sell Your eBook,” via the Amazon Kindle link and Nook link for only $4.99. However, as a special offer to my readers, if you use the code “Lisa” you’ll get 50% off!
The eBook that started it all, “31 Days to Clean” is also available for just $4.99!
Be sure to take a look at the vibrant covers, websites and Facebook communities that Sarah has created to bring her passion to life. You can tell, in doing so, that she has truly turned her passion into a new vision and a beautiful new path.
How will you turn your passions into a new vision and a new path?
(Please “put it out there” in the comments; let us watch it come to life!)

Another great post Lisa, you really do pay it forward on your blog. I do believe what goes around comes around.
If more people took to this strategy I think we would evolve as a society in the positive direction and at a much quicker pace. The world would be a much better place for it.
Kudos to Sarah for sharing her successes with the rest of us.

Thank you, Adam and yes – kudos to Sarah for being so openly helpful at blogchat and for inspiring us!
Lisa thank you for highlighting Sarah’s story here. What I love about it is that it’s one of those ‘I didn’t know till I tried’ type of success stories. So many of us are scared to death of failing, but you can’t let the fear of failure keep you from achieving something amazing. I’m sure Sarah had no idea she’s make anywhere near $55K in 3 months, but she decided to take a chance on her ebook and just see what would happen.
We really do have to give ourselves permission to fail. The failing isn’t the important, it’s learning from those failures and improving. Sorry, not sure this is in line with your post, but I really applaud when people take a chance on something that they have no idea if it will work 😉
Mack,
You’re welcome. And you are spot on; we can’t let fear – of anything – stop us from taking risks that are aligned with our hearts and our vision. It was because she was writing about topics she’s passionate about that she drove the success. Her willingness to recognize how others were being touched by one post inspired her to think much bigger – that’s what really resonated with me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on how this resonated with you!
I just love how you make every commenter feel special 😉 Thank you!
That’s a very sweet thing for you to say; thank you!
