I learned very early in my career that the way I led was different from my extraverted colleagues. I came to understand that if I wanted to receive top assignments, get promoted, and garner support for my ideas I needed to approach the challenges of business and leadership in a uniquely savvy way.
Alas, today I am a proud introvert who has learned the secrets to using her introversion wisely in business and leadership. I learned them mostly through hard work, though sometimes by accident, and now have a much better understanding of the power of my introversion. Being an introvert is truly an advantage in business and leadership if you know how to leverage it, and if you remain true to yourself.
I am out-of-my-mind thrilled to announce that the “Introvert’s Guide” blog series I wrote has been turned into an eBook!
I am sharing my experiences and knowledge with you so that you can achieve success – on your own terms – in business, leadership and ultimately in all aspects of your life.
“The Introvert’s Guide to Success in Business and Leadership” will be launching on Sunday, November 27th during #Blogchat on Twitter!
I will be “seated virtually” in the Guest Co-Host chair next to the Emperor of Twitter Chats (my term, he’s actually quite humble), Mack Collier, and we’ll be chatting about how introverts can boost their careers through blogging.
I couldn’t be more excited and honored to be launching the eBook at #Blogchat! You see, it was the week of my blog’s launch back in May of 2010 that I wrote my first post in the “Introvert’s Guide” series, so the two are inextricably linked. More importantly, it was the advice I gleaned by attending #Blogchat during the nine months leading up to the launch of this Visionary Leadership Blog that gave me the confidence to start writing a blog, and it was the encouragement and the support of the #Blogchat Community that made possible the blog launch of my dreams and The Introvert’s Guide Blog Series.
About The Introverts Guide to Success in Business and Leadership eBook:
I just love the story that the eBook’s cover picture tells… As introverts we get our energy from our inner world, so when we show up in the outer world of business and leadership we tend to “hide,” sometimes subconsciously, through our choices (when we avoid networking events, for example) and decisions (such as choosing not to tout our brilliant ideas).
While this is natural, it won’t help us to be abundantly successful in business and leadership. And ultimately, it holds us back from experiencing all of the richness of life.
This eBook gives you all the advice you need to be fully and vividly visible in your life – but in ways that you’ll be comfortable with; I promise!
Topics covered in the eBook include:
- Discover your introversion superpowers
- Master the art of networking… Learn how to network successfully, and comfortably, within organizations as well as at conferences and events
- “Stand out in a crowd” in a way that’s appealing and effective
- The core principles of success you simply must (and can!) master
- Interviewing advice that offers you a real advantage
- Three critical steps to getting promoted
- Leading and motivating others authentically and with aplomb
- Communicating effectively and in a variety of savvy ways
- Leveraging social media and blogging strategically
- A section written specifically for C-Level (CEO, COO, CFO, CMO…) introverts
Plus Two Bonus Sections!
- The Extraverts Guide to Leading Introverts, and
- The “Hang on Your Wall” List of Reminders for Success

I’ve been allowed to see an advance copy, and I’ve gotta tell you, folks – this little e-book is gold!
Thank you, Steve! That absolutely means the world to me.
First of all congratulations!! This is such an important topic, most especially for women. Your cover is awesome!
Thank you, Susan – I really appreciate it! Yes, it’s such a critical topic. And my cover designer is Erin at Design by Insight – So thrilled to know you like it!
Lisa,
I am marking my calendar for the launch party- November 27th!!! This has been a fun journey, right? I am looking at your cover and the photo speaks volumes. Think about this: I remember back to early 1979. I had just been promoted to an AVP at a rather large bank. My brother-in-law presented me with a really wonderful leather briefcase. The leather was soft…not stiff. I loved that briefcase and everything it represented. But at the same time it served to send a message that I had achieved a status and I could use it to open doors or keep people at bay. Perfect for the introvert!
Sometimes I think that in today’s world we can hide behind iPhones or other SmartPhones…rambling thoughts at 6:33AM in Tucson and it is only 37 degrees outside!
Wishing you much success with the book!
Judy
Judy,
I’m so honored that you’re going to be there – you have been with me for my ENTIRE journey and it just wouldn’t be the same without you! It’s amazing how the photo is taking you back to such an important memory; that is very special, indeed. It’s so easy to hide these days…and more important than ever not to! See you at blogchat and thank you for every ounce of your support along the way!
Lisa, in my early corporate days, I was definitely an introvert. Even at the Director level. However, over the years and with specific circumstances (being unemployed for a long period of time in 2001), I became more and more extroverted. I would say I was an extroverted-introvert. Congratulations on your new book, I look forward to reading it… and am very excited for you!
Stephen,
I can certainly relate to your experience of adapting to meet the needs of your circumstances. I talk about that in the eBook because I think it’s a critical skill for leaders. Thank you so much for the kind words – I really appreciate them!
I was a real introvert when I was young. I was so quiet and shy. The great change in my life came when I was promoted, at Coopers & Lybrand, to lead a group. What a big change in life! It is so important to be able to present one’s self well when leading people.
There are so many ways to overcome being an introvert. And you feel so much better when you do overcome it. People notice, and so do those that you are leading.
I so agree that a blog is important. I started mine a while ago, let it go, and then a friend convinced me to start it again. I have really gotten mileage from it.
Congratulations on your book and best of luck. I had a piece published earlier this year in a new book called Corporate Bold. Being published is a great experience and I am happy for you.
Hi Henry,
I talk in the eBook about how there is a very big difference between being introverted and being shy. Being an introvert is about where you get your energy. For introverts it’s from our inner world of ideas, images and dreams; extroverts get their energy from the outer world of people and experiences. So, being an introvert is not something to “overcome” – it’s actually something to be embraced and celebrated. We introverts have many superpowers, and I talk about them in the eBook. And thank you so much for the kind words about getting this eBook out into the world!
Lisa I’m so happy for you as I know you have been working on this ebook for a long time. As you know from the success of your Introverts series, introverts really are begging for information like this, and I know everytime I write about how introverts view blogging and social media, it’s always a vibrant discussion! I’m so excited that #Blogchat can have you co-host on the 27th and launch The Introvert’s Guide to Success in Business and Leadership. Can’t wait!
Thank you, Mack. Your support, and the support of the entire Blogchat Community, has meant the world to me during these past 18 months. I just can’t think of a better way to launch this “labor of love,” and I’m honored that you’ve allowed me the opportunity. See you on the 27th!
Congratulations Lisa –
As I have mentioned before, one of the key attributes of a leader is to create a vision, and see it all the way through. I remember when you first started the series, and I thought to myself, this would make a great seminar/conference topic, and a book. It is great to see your success evolve right in front of our eyes – the Power of Social Media. Your work has been a inspiration to many, and I am one of those individuals that you have impacted with your writing, your thoughts and your interaction.
What I have enjoyed most about your posts/writing is the fact that it is very personal to you – that is a great style and way of communicating your vision. Thanks for sharing…
All The Best Lisa

Steve,
I can’t tell you how much your kind words and encouragement mean to me! Thank you so much for being along with me for this journey and being an important part of LeadershipChat. I hope you’ll join me for the launch of the eBook at Blogchat! With my most sincere gratitude, ~L
Congrats Lisa – can’t wait to read it! I actually was quite the introvert when I was a kid, and it took a lot of effort and guts to get myself over the hump. It’s been so great to watch you develop this theme over the last year and a half – I just know that anyone who absorbs your wisdom will be all the better for it.
My very best wishes for a great launch, and all the best!
Terry
That’s incredibly kind of you, Terry – thank you so much! You and the entire SOBCon Community have been so supportive of me and my initiatives during these past 18 months and that has meant the world to me! Hope to see you at Blogchat on the 27th. 🙂
Fantastic news, Lisa! I’m sure you’ve put in tremendous effort to get to this day. You’re an example to introverts, extroverts, and others every day. Thank you for that. I’ve never participated in #blogchat before, but I’ll have to sneak over there to be a part of your special day. Congrats!
That means so much to me, Greg – thank you! It would mean the world to me to see you at Blogchat on the 27th!
